Colorless liquid with irritating odor, boiling point 48°C, melting point -81°C, density 0.798g/cm3. Soluble in water, miscible with alcohol and ether. It has irritating effect on skin, eyes, mouth and nasal mucosa. Propionaldehyde chemical properties are very active, can react with hydrogen to generate propanol, oxidation reaction to generate propionic acid, easy to polymerize and other reactions.

Uses:

Propionaldehyde is the main raw material for the production of n-propanol, preservative raw material propionic acid, waterborne polyurethane raw material dihydroxymethylpropionic acid, organic glass monomer methyl anthranilic acid methyl ester, resin raw material tris(hydroxymethyl)ethane, water treatment agent acetone oxime. Propionaldehyde is also the production of polyethylene in the process of polymerization blocking agent, synthetic resins, rubber accelerator and antioxidant, etc., can also be used as antifreeze, lubricant, dehydrating agent. Propionaldehyde is widely used in medicine, paint, plastics, spices, rubber, food and feed industries, etc. It is recognized as the basic raw material of fine chemical industry.

Storage: Propionaldehyde is easy to oxidize and generate acid, it should avoid contact with air and be stored under nitrogen protection. Usually use aluminum or stainless steel containers, can also use phenolic resin lined carbon steel containers; according to the provisions of flammable chemicals storage and transportation.
