Propanoic Acid

Propionic acid, also known as primordial oleic acid, is a colorless clarified oily liquid with an unpleasant sour pungent odor. Melting point -20.8℃, boiling point 141℃. Miscible with water, soluble in alcohol, chloroform and ether. It is chemically active and acidic, and can undergo salt formation, esterification, reduction and other reactions.

Usage

Propionic acid is an important fine chemical, mainly used as food and feed additives. Calcium propionate and sodium propionate can prevent food spoilage due to microorganisms, and are used in the preservation of bread and pastries. Propionic acid, sodium propionate, calcium propionate are good feed preservatives, mostly used to preserve feed for pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry. Propionate can be used as solvents, spices, pharmaceutical intermediates, cosmetic additives and so on. Propionic acid derivatives 2-chloropropionic acid, 2-bromopropionic acid, 3-chloropropionic acid, propionitrile, propionyl chloride, used in drugs, pesticides and herbicides, food fortification, spices and other products.

Storage

Store separately with oxidizing agent, reducing agent, alkali, do not mix storage, keep the container sealed. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse, away from fire and heat sources. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and suitable shelter materials.
